(helen) Beatrix Potter
Female : Children's
writer. C of E. Engaged to Norman Warne (son of the publisher) but he
died. She spent more time in the Lake District and married solicitor,
William Heelis in 1913. Her books made the publishers Warne very wealthy
and successful. After 1913 she wrote less, turning her time to breeding
sheep and farming. Over 4000 acres were bequeathed to the National
Trust. The Beatrix Potter Gallery at Hawkshead displays many of her
original illustrations
